For the real experience
Kerala enjoys the luxury of having the western ghats along its borders,One of the two mountain ranges of southern India, separated by the Deccan Plateau.the Western Ghats extend about 1,609 km (1,000 mi) along the coast of the Arabian Sea.
The Western Ghats, known locally as the Sahyadri Hills, are formed by the Malabar Plains
There is a great variety of vegetation all along the Ghats: scrub jungles, grassland along the lower altitudes, dry and moist deciduous forests, and semi-evergreen and evergreen forests. The main centre of diversity is the Silent Valley.
The complex topography and the heavy rainfall have made certain areas inaccessible and have helped the region retain its diversity. But the areas which are accessable are visited by tourist to experience its diversities, i.e. Wayanad for the wild life…Munnar for the Neelgiri Thars and Kurinji flowers which blossoms only in 14 years and Periyar for being rich in spices
The wildlife Sanctuaries at these places are home to tigers, leopards, sloth bears, wild dogs, jackals, and Indian foxes besides the gaur, sambar, spotted dear, Indian muntjac, Bonnet macaque, black-naped hare, wild boar, and giant squirrel. Elephants can be spotted in the wildlife sanctuary during the dry season only as they migrate during the monsoons.
You may spot peacocks, babblers, cuckoos, owls, woodpeckers, jungle fowls, coucals, fairy blue bird and Malabar hornbill easily. The entire area is covered with the moist deciduous forests and the evergreen forests. Teak and bamboos are extensive in the sanctuary.
While you are here, do not miss out on the pulsating plantations of coffee, tea, cardamom, pepper and rubber that dot the hills.
The nature is at its best at these hill stations with the misty hills and the delightful dales.
